What Is Ingestible Skincare?

You’ve probably got your skincare routine down. The cleanser you swear by, the serum you purchase on repeat, the SPF you never skip. And yet, sometimes it still feels like something’s missing. More often than not, that something isn’t another serum.

For many of us, it’s ingestible skincare. So, here’s what it actually is, what it can (and can’t) do, and how to tell the good stuff from the hype.

So, what is it?

Ingestible skincare is exactly what it sounds like, skincare you eat, drink or take rather than put on your skin.

Now your creams and serums are doing beautiful work on the surface, but they can only reach so far. That’s where ingestible skincare comes in and does the work on a cellular level.

What’s actually in it?

This depends largely on what the formula is designed to do. A few names come up again and again, and some will sound very familiar to your serums:

  • Hyaluronic acid, the hydration hero, known for holding onto water
  • Collagen, a big part of how firm and bouncy skin feels
  • Ceramides, which help keep your skin’s protective layer strong
  • Vitamin C, a go-to for glow

But the ingredient name on the box is only half the story. How much is in there matters just as much, which is why we obsessed over both when building our formula.

Make it a ritual, not a chore

The catch with anything you take daily is that it only works if you actually take it daily. So it should be something you look forward to.

That’s why the format matters as much as the formula. Ours is made to fit into a busy life. Headed to the office or Pilates? Bring it with you. Rather start your morning with it? Even better. When it feels like part of your day instead of another task, you actually keep it up long enough to see results. We designed it to move with you, not keep you at the bathroom sink.

When will you notice a difference?

We’ll be straight with you: this isn’t an overnight thing. Your skin takes time to renew itself, so give it a couple of months of showing up every day.

A realistic timeline looks like this:

  1. The first few weeks: you’re building the habit. Don’t go looking for changes in the mirror yet.
  2. Around a month in: this is often when skin starts to feel more hydrated and plump.
  3. Two to three months: this is when you get the real picture.

The biggest factor? Consistency. Every day beats “whenever I remember.”

Questions we get a lot

Does it actually work? There’s real research behind hydration ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides, and it keeps growing. Like anything in skincare, results vary from person to person, and you need to be consistent.

Can’t I just drink more water? Drink the water, always. But how hydrated your skin looks isn’t only about how much you drink. It’s also about how well your skin holds onto it, and that’s what these ingredients are there for.

When should I take it? Whenever you’ll remember. Tying it to something you already do every day makes it stick. For some, that’s alongside their AM skincare routine. For others, it’s with lunch, or when plain water gets a little boring come the afternoon.

Do I still need my regular skincare? Yes. This does not replace your current routine, it elevates it.

Is it okay if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding? Check with your doctor before starting any supplement.

Meet Nué Beauty Water™

Nué started the way a lot of good ideas do: with a full skincare routine and a nagging feeling that something was still missing. When we went looking for that something, most of what we found fell into two camps: electrolyte drinks made for workouts, and collagen. Getting real skin hydration meant piecing together several products.

So we made one. That’s Beauty Water™, starting with our first formula, Hydration, built for one thing: deep skin hydration. It’s simple by design, made to actually work, and honest about what goes into it. Because taking care of your skin shouldn’t require a degree in skincare.
